Coopertown Resident Recognized For Bravery

On the morning of November 2, 2022, a Kentucky man decided to go on a crime spree in the Pleasant View and Coopertown area involving stolen vehicles, vandalism, aggravated burglary, and aggravated assault. Of all the poor decisions he made that morning, he chose the wrong house to break into. Coopertown Resident, Travis Shade, was alerted to an intruder in his home that morning and confronted him as the intruder was trying to steal his motorcycle. Mr. Shade ordered the intruder to get off of the motorcycle. The intruder decided to make another poor decision and rammed the motorcycle into the garage wall, in the direction of Mr. Shade. The intruder decided he had worn out his welcome and chose to take off running. Mr. Shade pursued the intruder, took him to the ground a couple of homes away, and detained him until law enforcement arrived.

Coopertown Resident, Travis Shade received the Coopertown Police Department Citizen Service Award.

The Coopertown Police Department Citizen Service Award is given to any citizen who performs an act of bravery or exceptional service to the community that involves law enforcement. On December 2, 2022, Coopertown Police Chief Tyler Haley presented Travis Shade the department’s Citizen Service Award and challenge coin, as Mr. Shade demonstrated acts of bravery and exceptional service to the community while involving law enforcement. Mr. Shade’s exemplary performance reflects great credit upon himself and the Town of Coopertown.

As for the intruder, he was awarded felony charges and fine accommodations behind bars. Nathan Ryan Wasson was arrested and charged with aggravated burglary, aggravated assault, and theft of property over $1000. He is being held at the Robertson County Detention Facility with a $40,000 bond. Mr. Wasson also faces charges in other jurisdictions.
