September is National Recovery Month

National Recovery Month is a national commemoration celebrated in September to educate Americans about how substance use treatment and mental health services may help people with mental and/or substance use disorders live a healthy and happy life. The focus of the observance is to recognize the accomplishments of individuals in recovery, just as we recognize the accomplishments of those managing other health problems such as hypertension, diabetes, asthma, and heart disease. This observance conveys the positive message that behavioral health is important for general health, that prevention works, that treatment works, and that individuals can and do recover (NAADAC.org, n.d.).

The theme of National Recovery Month in 2021, “Recovery is For Everyone: Every Person, Every Family, Every Community,” reminds people in recovery and those who assist them that they are not alone on their road to recovery. Everyone’s path is unique, yet we’re all in this together. Recovery Month will continue to educate others about substance use disorders and co-occurring illnesses, the efficacy of treatment and recovery programs, and the possibility of recovery (NAADAC.org, n.d.).

Coopertown and Robertson County residents have local access to recovery and treatment resources. The Robertson County Health Council is a group of professionals and private citizens committed to promoting the general health and welfare of Robertson County residents via comprehensive, coordinated initiatives (Robertson County Health Council, 2021). They have published a resource directory with valuable information for Robertson County residents. Here is a list of some of the local resources available:
