As the area municipalities continue to expand, growth in Nashville, Clarksville, and Springfield, Tennessee inevitably increases traffic through Coopertown, including criminal traffic. The Criminal Investigations Division (CID) is responsible for investigating criminal activity that occurs within the Coopertown Municipal City Limits. Most criminal activity may be initially investigated by a Patrol Officer and later assigned to CID for more extensive investigation.
The police department clerk is responsible for maintaining the agency's records,
including police reports, crash reports, citations, and other various documents. Some of the records clerk's
duties involve data entry of all agency reports, gathering
data regarding officer activity and area crime statistics, and reporting crime data to the Tennessee
Incident Based Reporting System (TIBRS) and the federal Uniform Crime Report (UCR). Additionally, the police
department clerk serves as the
court clerk, responsible for managing city citations and preparing the Coopertown Municipal Court
docket.

Coopertown Police Officers complete different reports for different circumstances - CAD reports, incident reports, and crash reports. In order to obtain a police report, you may need to be aware of what type of report was taken.
Officers may make notes or have dispatchers place notes in the CAD on calls that may not necessarily need immediate law enforcement action, but perhaps there is a need to document a situation. For example, a person reports suspicious activity near their home, but law enforcement was not able to locate any suspects or signs of illegal activity. The officer may make a note in the CAD of what actions were taken and what they observed. This would be referred to as a CAD report. If an officer tells you they made a CAD report and you want to obtain a copy of the CAD for that incident, you will need to contact dispatch, Robertson County Emergency Communications, at 615-384-4911. You can learn more about Robertson County Emergency Communications by visiting their website at Robertson911.com.
Incident reports, or more commonly referred to as "Police Reports," are generally used to document crimes, but may be used to give a more detailed account of an incident where no crime occurred, such as a Matter of Record report. If you need a copy of a police report that you have involvement in, you will need to provide the Police Department clerk with your identification and a fee of 15¢ per page ($0.15). If you wish to receive a copy of a police report that you have no involvement in and you are a Tennessee resident, you must complete a Records Request Form, provide identification verifying Tennessee residency, and pay a fee of 15¢ per page ($0.15). Police reports can be obtained at the Coopertown Police Department located at 5153 Burgess Gower Rd, Springfield, TN 37172, during administrative hours. Please allow 72 hours after the incident for the report to be available.
Obtaining a copy of a crash report is as easy as visiting PurchaseTNCrash.gov. Please allow approximately 72 hours after the crash for the report to become available.
The Coopertown Police Department provides training for the department, in addition to organizing training for the community and other law enforcement agencies. Officers are required to attend in-service training each year, to include some training topics mandated by the Tennessee Peace Officers Standards & Training (POST) Commission. Coopertown Police Officers continuously train throughout the year to go above and beyond the minimum training requirements.
Newly hired police officers undergo field training under the close supervision of a certified Field Training Officer, prior to being released to work as an officer in a solo capacity. The focus of the field training program is to ensure the officer understands how to apply what they learned in the police academy to real-life situations within the community. Additionally, the program allows the department to further evaluate if the officer is a good fit for the Coopertown Police Department. New officers are required to have a comprehensive understanding of department policy, city ordinances, state law, area geography, and exhibit excellent interpersonal skills and officer safety habits.
