Officers Receive Commendation For Action During Tobacco Barn Fire

Coopertown, Tennessee

A tobacco barn caught fire on Friday, October 7, 2022, near Highway 49 and York Rd, behind the Sudden Service/Marathon gas station. Pleasant View Volunteer Fire, Coopertown Police Department, Robertson County EMS, and Pleasant View Police Department responded to the scene. As firefighters were battling the fire at the barn, embers from the fire traveled to fields nearby. Numerous grass fires began, including a large, growing grass fire in close proximity to the gas station. Pleasant View Police Officer Daniel Abbott, Coopertown Police Lieutenant Levert Jackson, and Coopertown Police Officer Kayleigh Brown rushed to the grass fires and extinguished them before they could grow larger. As more Fire Department personnel continued to arrive to battle the barn fire, the officers had the grass fires under control.

If it were not for the quick thinking of the officers, there existed the possibility of greater loss of property and/or lives. On Thursday, November 10, 2022, Coopertown Police Chief Tyler Haley and Coopertown Mayor Becca Werner presented the officers with the Coopertown Police Department Commendation Bar award for their actions that day.
