Coopertown Police Department is partnering with the Tennessee Highway
Safety Office (THSO) for its “Booze It and Lose It” campaign from August 17 to September 5,
surrounding the Labor Day holiday. This initiative coincides with the National Highway Traffic
Safety Administration’s “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” mobilization to increase impaired-
driving enforcement nationwide.
The Coopertown Police Department will be in full force to make sure the roadways are safe
from those driving impaired by drugs and/or alcohol. Not only do we want to keep impaired
drivers off the road but we want to encourage all drivers to not drink and drive and to not drive
on medication that may make you drowsy. Our officers will be sweeping the streets, stopping
violators and looking out for impaired driving.
The Coopertown Police Department wants you to know that many people are injured and/or
killed per year due to impaired driving. Please do your part and not operate a vehicle when you
are under the influence of alcohol or drugs. A drug is defined as any substance that, when
taken into the human body, can impair the ability of a person to operate a motor vehicle safely.
Our goal is to decrease the amount of impaired driving through education sharing and to
increase the amount of patrols for those unwilling to abide by the law and care for their safety
and the safety of others.
Increased state and national messaging about the dangers of drunk driving, coupled with
increased sobriety checkpoints and high visibility enforcement, aim to drastically reduce the
number of drunk-driving crashes, injuries, and fatalities this year.
The consequences of a single DUI conviction for a first-time offender in the state of Tennessee
may include costly fines, court costs, legal fees, jail time, mandatory drug and alcohol
treatment, and/or the installation of an ignition interlock device in his/her vehicle.
The THSO provides grant funding to support Coopertown Police in increased enforcement
efforts during the Booze It and Lose It campaign. For more information about the THSO, please
