Coopertown, Tennessee
Throughout the year, Coopertown Police raise donations during community events to help support their annual Shop With A Cop event, designed to ensure disadvantaged children receive Christmas gifts. During the Coopertown Police Touch-A-Truck event, visitors had the opportunity to dunk a cop and donate toward Shop With A Cop. At the first annual Coopertown Police Ride4Kidz Motorcycle Ride, riders generously donated to Shop With A Cop. In addition to the community events, Coopertown businesses and citizens have made generous donations to support the program.
This year, Coopertown Police enlisted the help of the Tennessee Highway Patrol, JRC, Coopertown City Hall staff, Coopertown Public Works, Robertson County Schools and other volunteers to take children from Coopertown Elementary and Middle Schools Christmas shopping at Walmart in Springfield. Coopertown Mayor Becca Werner and Coopertown Police Chief Tyler Haley led the Shop With A Cop briefing on Friday morning before the event. “Things that mom and dad won’t let them buy, we don’t let them buy, either” said Mayor Werner. “One of the things I did […] require last year was that they purchase at least one article of clothing.” The Mayor went on to explain how some of the children have historically opted to purchase items for other members of their family, which was acceptable. Chief Haley stated there would be 8 groups of children and each group would be led by an Officer or Trooper and accompanied by another volunteer. Following the shopping event at Walmart, McDonald’s in Springfield generously treated the children and adults to lunch.
Coopertown Police extend their gratitude to Appleton Harley-Davidson, Covenant Confirmers, JRC, Lowes, McDonald’s, the Owens family, Robertson County Schools, Tennessee Highway Patrol, Walmart, and everyone else that volunteered or donated. Thanks to everyone’s support, this year’s Shop With A Cop was a success.
